{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.casey.senate.gov/newsroom/releases/casey-marks-one-year-anniversary-of-bangladesh-tazreen-fire", "Casey Marks One Year Anniversary of Bangladesh Tazreen Fire", "2013-11-22", "2013", "2013-11", "Democrat", "House", "PA", "Bob Casey", "C001070", "www.casey.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of Senate\u2019s Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety, released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the Tazreen fashion factory fire.\r\n\u201cHorrific tragedies like the Tazreen fashion factory fire are an unfortunate reminder of the importance of strong labor standards,\u201d said Senator Casey.\u00a0 \u201cLax standards put workers at risk and force U.S. employees to compete on an unfair playing field as companies often opt for the lowest bidder in the global market.\u201d\r\nThis week, Senator Casey offered an amendment to that requires Military Exchanges to abide by the \u201cAccord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh,\u201d which is a binding agreement that would oversee and direct garment factories to remedy unsafe conditions using the purchasing power of the retailers/ brands.\u00a0 Bangladeshi factories used by the Military Exchanges have been found to be unsafe, at times deadly, \u00a0and workers\u2014mostly women\u2014have been subjected to abuse and uncompensated overtime.\r\nWhile the government can\u2019t require every retailer to source material and merchandise from responsible employers the government should lead by example by promoting a safe workplace\u00a0 and a strong voice for workers in Bangladesh through responsible federal agency procurement requirements.\u00a0\r\n###\r\n\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\tPress Contact\r\n\t\t\t\t\tApril Mellody 202-228-6367", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.casey.senate.gov/newsroom/releases/casey-marks-one-year-anniversary-of-bangladesh-tazreen-fire"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.3986499980092049, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
