I had the honor to meet with Shimon Peres twice as part of a congressional delegation and then again for a one-on-one meeting in 2013, which remains a highlight of my Senate tenure; his love for his country and commitment to the bilateral relationship between the United States and Israel was evident. Peres was a voice for peace, even when the odds were against him. We lost a true servant-leader today, and we must count ourselves as blessed to have been on this earth during his lifetime.
