{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/cassidy-pays-tribute-to-eight-children-killed-in-shreveport-shooting/", "Cassidy Pays Tribute to Eight Children Killed in Shreveport Shooting", "2026-04-21", "2026", "2026-04", "Republican", "Senate", "LA", "Bill Cassidy", "C001075", "www.cassidy.senate.gov", "cassidy", "https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/?jsf=jet-engine:press-list", "scraper", "WASHINGTON \u2013 U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) delivered a speech on the U.S. Senate floor honoring the eight young lives lost in a tragic act of violence in Shreveport.\n\n\u201cAll of us have experienced someone in our life who has died, but the murder of a child defies comprehension,\u201d said Dr. Cassidy.\n\n\u201cWe pray for the families, for the communities, that they can recover as much as families and communities can recover from something so horrific,\u201d continued Dr. Cassidy.\n\nCassidy\u2019s remarks as prepared for delivery are below:\n\nAll of us have experienced someone in our life who has died, but the murder of a child defies comprehension.\n\nIt can\u2019t be measured, understood, or compared to anything else.\n\nIt is, in a word, awful.\n\nBut today, the Shreveport community in Louisiana grieves the loss of eight children.\n\nA man shot seven of his own, and a cousin, between the ages of three and 11.\n\nHe shot the mothers.\n\nI\u2019m told they\u2019re hospitalized in serious condition, but expected to survive.\n\nA 13-year-old was injured jumping off a roof to escape.\n\nNow I asked my people in my office: Why do we grieve so much?\n\nPeople die all the time.\n\nAnd I think what we agreed upon is that they look to their parents for protection, and not to be killed.\n\nAnd it is, if you will, a sacrifice of a sacred bond between a parent and a child.\n\nAnd of course, when that comes to mind\u2014what is sacred?\n\nAnd then also, when we read of these dying, we think of our own children, and we feel protective of them.\n\nAnd we know no matter how much emotion we feel, they died.\n\nNow we thank the officers who acted quickly and bravely to pursue the shooter and stop him from doing it again.\n\nWe pray for the families, for the communities, that they can recover as much as families and communities can recover from something so horrific.\n\nMadam President, I request a moment of silence for these eight young souls, for Shreveport, for us all.\n\nI yield the floor.\n\n###", 1, "2026-04-22T05:46:42Z", "2026-04-22T05:48:06Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/cassidy-pays-tribute-to-eight-children-killed-in-shreveport-shooting/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0768389329314232, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
