{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/senate-passes-bill-to-honor-late-shreveport-judge-tom-stagg", "Senate Passes Bill to Honor Late Shreveport Judge Tom Stagg", "2016-09-16", "2016", "2016-09", "Republican", "House", "LA", "Bill Cassidy", "C001075", "www.cassidy.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "09.16.16\n\t\t\t Senate Passes Bill to Honor Late Shreveport Judge Tom Stagg \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tWASHINGTON\u2014 Last April, US Senator Bill Cassidy, MD and US Senator David Vitter introduced a bill in the US Senate to designate the Shreveport Federal Building and United States courthouse as the \u201cTom Stagg United States Court House.\u201d Last Night, the bill passed in the Senate and now moves to the US House of Representatives for consideration.\r\n\r\nThe Honorable Thomas \u2018Tom\u2019 Eaton Stagg Jr. of Shreveport, who passed away last June, served in the United States Army during WWII. He rose to the rank of Captain, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze Star for Valor, another Bronze Star for meritorious service and the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster.\r\n\r\nAfter attending Cambridge and LSU Law Center, Stagg served in private practice before his nomination to serve on the federal bench for the Western District of Louisiana in 1974. He was named chief judge in 1984, a position he held until 1991.\r\n\u00a0\r\n\u201cThe Honorable Tom Stagg was an inspirational figure and is well deserving of this honor,\u201d said Dr. Cassidy. \u201cHe was a deeply respected member of his community and had a reputation of intelligence, spirit, patriotism, wisdom and wit.\u201d\r\n\u00a0\r\nRead the Bill here.\r\n\u00a0\r\nLast April, Dr. Cassidy spoke on the Senate floor in support of the building\u2019s renaming and to honor the late Judge Stagg.
