SCHOOLS GAIN $1.9 MILLION TO CONTINUE WIND RETROFIT WORK", "2016-10-18", "2016", "2016-10", "Republican", "House", "MS", "Thad Cochran", "C000567", "www.cochran.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON, D.C \u2013 U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today announced that the Harrison County School District has been awarded $1.9 million to continue retrofitting school facilities to survive hurricane-force winds.The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved the hazard mitigation grant as part of an ongoing wind retrofit initiative on Harrison County School District schools.\u00a0 This grant will be used for roof hardening at Harrison Central High School in Gulfport.\u201cThe Harrison County schools have worked diligently since Hurricane Katrina to ensure that their facilities can withstand destructive winds.\u00a0 I am pleased that FEMA is continuing to provide resources to carry out this preventative work,\u201d said Cochran, who is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee with funding jurisdiction over FEMA.FEMA is providing $1.8 million for the Harrison Central High School project, which combined with $95,176 in nonfederal funding constitutes the $1.9 million grant award.\u00a0 In September, FEMA also provided $91,652 for architectural and design work on this project.The Harrison County School Wind Retrofit Project involves 18 campuses, many of which are used as \u201cshelters of last resort\u201d during emergencies.\u00a0 Seven campuses have been completed to date, including installation of doors, windows and other protective devices that should withstand 180 mph winds.With this latest award, FEMA has contributed more than $14.1 million to the district\u2019s retrofit initiative.###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.cochran.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/news-releases?ContentRecord_id=44DB50B7-3F7C-4A91-B183-DCD7509F54E5"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.806082971394062, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
