Stewart of Terry, who is being honored in Washington for her work to expand adoption services in Mississippi.\r\nStewart, who was nominated by Cochran as Mississippi\u2019s 2013 Angel in Adoption, is being honored this week as part of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute\u2019s annual \u201cAngels in Adoption\u201d program.\u00a0 Stewart is branch director for Bethany Christian Services of Mississippi. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker.\r\n\u201cI commend Mrs. Stewart for her dedication to a career that has had such a positive impact on so many lives.\u00a0 The Angels in Adoption program is recognizing her for her special ability to work with both expectant and adoptive parents to create an adoption plan that works best for each child,\u201d Cochran said.\r\nStewart has worked with Bethany Christian Services of Mississippi since 1987, serving in many roles including pregnancy counselor, adoption worker and director.\u00a0 She is certified master trainer in Infant Adoption Awareness Training.\u00a0 During her tenure with Bethany, more than 650 children have been placed in adoptive homes.\u00a0 Previously, Stewart\u2019s career included with Hinds County Human Services, as well as the Mississippi Department of Human Services, on cases involving children in foster care, including those awaiting adoption.\r\nThe Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on increasing awareness about children in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes, and on eliminating barriers to adoption.
