The bill, which passed the\r\nHouse Dec. 11, now heads to the president's desk and is expected to become law\r\nthis week. Newark-based NIIMBL supports\r\nindustry-leading research with 130 members from industry, academic institutes,\r\nnonprofit organizations, and states. The manufacturing hub, which could extend\r\nits $70 million federal grant thanks to Sen. Coons' bill, connects local\r\nmanufacturers to national resources to spur local innovation. Many of the nation's top companies\r\nand universities in the biopharmaceutical field have organized through Delaware\r\nto develop vaccines, gene therapies, and cancer drugs that aim to result in\r\nlifesaving cures and medical treatments. These innovations have the potential\r\nnot only to save lives, but create new high-skill, high-paying jobs for\r\nDelawareans. \"It brings me great pride\r\nthat Delawareans are leading the world in the development, testing, and\r\nproduction of medicines of the future,\"Senator Coons said.\"With\r\nthis bill, and the vital federal funding opportunity it creates, Delaware's\r\ninnovators will continue to not only save lives, but also create jobs for\r\ngenerations of high-skilled Delawareans who will manufacture these lifesaving\r\ndrugs. Also, other states are empowered to follow Delaware's lead by forming\r\nnew institutes specializing in other vital areas of manufacturing.\" \"Passage of this Act\r\ncontinues our country's investment in U.S. advanced manufacturing\r\ncompetitiveness, supports our long-term leadership in innovation, and also\r\nhelps drive key activities in Delaware related to the bioeconomy,\"said\r\nDennis Assanis, president of the University of Delaware.\"This\r\nAct will promote our nation's economic growth and lead to a more skilled\r\nbiomanufacturing workforce.\" \"Our Delaware Manufacturing\r\nAssociation consistently hears from employers on their struggle to find skilled\r\nworkers. With advancing technologies, the need to meet the talent demands of\r\nbusinesses who choose to reside and grow in Delaware is more important than\r\never,\"said Michael Quaranta, president at the Delaware State\r\nChamber of Commerce.\"The passing of the GLAM Act will boost\r\nDelaware's manufacturing sector not only through creating well-paying jobs but\r\nalso by developing and maintaining a skilled workforce.\" Cosponsored by U.S. Sens. Cory\r\nGardner (R-Colo.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Maggie\r\nHassan (D-N.H.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Marco Rubio\r\n(R-Fla.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), and Susan Collins (R-Maine), the Global Leadership\r\nin Advanced Manufacturing Act, or GLAM Act, was filed as an amendment to the\r\nNDAA. In addition to the support for NIIMBL, this legislation promotes the\r\ndevelopment of new Manufacturing USA institutes. The Manufacturing USA program is a\r\nnational network of 14 public-private partnership institutes with 1,300-member\r\ncompanies and institutions working to keep the U.S. on the cutting edge of\r\nadvanced manufacturing. The institutes have generated $2 billion in\r\nindustry-matched funding to transition innovative technologies from lab to\r\nmarket and to expand the production of goods made in America. The bill also embeds a liaison of\r\nthe Manufacturing Extension Partnership in each Manufacturing USA institute to\r\nassist with cybersecurity training, workforce development, and technology\r\ntransfer for small- and medium-sized manufacturers. ###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.coons.senate.gov/news/press-releases/sen-coons-bill-enabling-ongoing-funding-for-newark-led-manufacturing-innovation-institute-to-become-law"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4025690034031868, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
