Bob Casey (D-PA), was included in the government funding bill:\n\n\u201cChina will stop at nothing to win the global power competition, and certain investments \u2013 including intellectual property and capital \u2013 by American companies in the country can be weaponized by the Chinese Communist Party to get ahead,\u201d said Sen. Cornyn. \u201cWith the inclusion of outbound investment language in the government funding bill, we\u2019re taking a necessary step to safeguard American innovation against bad actors and ensure our lasting dominance on the world stage, and I commend congressional leaders for their work to include this important issue in the final text.\u201d\n\nBackground:\n\nThe provisions included in this year\u2019s government funding agreement would:\n\nAuthorize the President to impose sanctions on any People\u2019s Republic of China (PRC) entity that engages in significant operations in the PRC\u2019s military and intelligence sectors;\n\nPermit the Secretary of Treasury to prohibit a U.S. person from investing in certain sensitive technologies;\n\nRequire the Secretary of Treasury to set up a notification regime for the covered technologies the Secretary chooses not to prohibit;\n\nRequire annual reports to Congress containing information on covered investments and trends;\n\nAnd direct the Secretary of Treasury, in coordination with other agencies, to engage with partner countries on establishing comparable outbound investment regimes.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:07:19Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/news/cornyn-on-outbound-investment-provisions-included-in-government-funding-bill/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.125912880524993, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
