{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.crapo.senate.gov/media/newsreleases/crapo-risch-back-bill-to-protect-parental-rights", "Crapo, Risch Back Bill to Protect Parental Rights", "2022-10-03", "2022", "2022-10", "Republican", "Senate", "ID", "Mike Crapo", "C000880", "www.crapo.senate.gov", "crapo", "https://www.crapo.senate.gov/media/newsreleases", "scraper", "Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch (both R-Idaho) joined in co-sponsoring S. 4892, the Parental Rights Over the Education and Care of Their (PROTECT) Kids Act, which would protect parental rights by preventing schools from concealing information about students\u2019 gender from their parents.\n\n\u201cParents have the right to be actively involved in their children\u2019s lives,\u201d said Crapo. \u201cChildren deserve an education free from harmful social ideologies, and the federal government should not provide any funding to schools that deny parents the right to access crucial information about their child\u2019s wellbeing.\u201d\n\n\u201cOpen and transparent communication between schools and parents is critical for the development, education, and wellbeing of our children,\u201d said Risch. \u201cEducational environments that withhold critical information from parents can and will do more harm than good.\u201d\n\nThe PROTECT Kids Act would restrict federal funding for any elementary or middle school that allows students to change their pronouns, gender markers, or sex-based accommodations (including locker rooms and bathrooms) without the consent of their parents.
