He is the Peace President. What a remarkable moment, and hats off to President Trump\u2019s bold leadership. Steve Witkoff, Marco Rubio, working with the Israelis, with Bibi Netanyahu and our Arab friends to bring us to this moment of the release of the hostages. And I\u2019m reminded those words of \u201cblessed are the peacemakers,\u201d those are words spoken by Christ in northern Israel over 2,000 years ago, and President Trump has blessed the world with his peace-making ability\u2026\n\n\u2026I was in Israel three weeks ago. In fact, I was on the border with Gaza standing there. In fact, I could hear F-16s overhead, Israeli F-16s, that were taking the fight to Hamas. And then later, that same day, I went to Jerusalem and had a one-hour meeting with Bibi Netanyahu talking about this exact goal, and that is to get the hostages released, to bring them home safely, back to their families. [It\u2019s] just a remarkable resolve of Bibi Netanyahu, of President Trump, of our Arab friends who are working with us in the Middle East to bring us to this moment. This was risky for leaders. It\u2019s something that Joe Biden could never have done. But it is really about peace through strength. It\u2019s about resolve. That\u2019s respected in the Middle East, and I\u2019m thankful today that because of President Trump\u2019s leadership, working with great leaders like Steve Witkoff, Marco Rubio, these hostages are going to be coming home. What a wonderful celebratory moment for those families who kept hope alive and now they\u2019re going to see those hopes and prayers realized.\n\nDaines on the future of Israel and Gaza:\n\nWell, this is an important first step, certainly the release of the hostages. That was always the number one goal. But now, more difficult work begins, and that will be securing Gaza to ensure that there\u2019s not a threat to the safety of Israel. Hamas needs to relinquish their weapons, and we need to have a different governing structure and authority in Gaza, and to rebuild Gaza, to get back to the root cause, the poverty, the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza. It\u2019s going to require the right leadership to restore peace and prosperity to Gaza.
