Senator Steve Daines today spoke on the Senate floor to honor Jean Turnage, former Montana Supreme Court Chief Justice and State Senate President who passed away earlier this week.\r\n\r\nClickhereto download Daines' remarks.\r\nClickhereto watch Daines' remarks.\r\nDaines made the following remarks on the Senate floor:\r\nI rise today in recognition of Jean Turnage, former Montana Supreme Court Chief Justice and State Senate President who passed away earlier this week.\r\nChief Justice Turnage was a true public servant who always put Montana and this nation first. He is remembered as a fair and tolerant judge, and a truegentleman legislator.\r\nAs both a legislator and judge he had a genius forsolving conflicts and bridging differences  a quality that is far too rare in public service. \r\nChief Justice Turnage was part of a dying breed of the greatest generation and was a true statesmen.\r\nAs a World War II veteran, a state legislator and Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court, Justice Turnage truly exemplified our state's strong legacy of service. His passing is a great loss for Montana.\r\nOn behalf of all Montanans, I want to recognize Jean for his decades of service to Montana and to this nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Turnage family during this time of loss.\r\n###\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\t  \n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t \n\t\t\n\t\t\tPrint\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tEmail\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tTweet\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t \n\t\n\t\n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n  \n\t\n    \n    \n    \n    \n    \n    \t\n    \t\n\t    \t  \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tPrevious Article\n\t\t    \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tNext Article", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.daines.senate.gov/news/press-releases/daines-honors-jean-turnage-on-senate-floor"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9568687528371811, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
