Senator Steve Daines today led a coalition of Senators in support of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), an important tool for increasing public access to public lands, on the Senate floor.\r\nSenators Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Richard Burr (R-NC) joined Daines on the Senate floor to urge their House and Senate colleagues to reauthorize LWCFand notallow authorization to lapse.\r\nWe're not going to let this conversation die. We're going to continue to fight for the permanent reauthorization of LWCF. It is a tool for public access to ensure that Montanans and Americans can have access to their public lands,Daines stated on the Senate floor this afternoon.It is vital that we permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund and do not allow authorization to lapse.\r\n\r\nClickhereto watch Daines' remarks.\r\nClickhereto download Daines' remarks.\r\nDaines is a cosponsor of S.338, bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) to secure a permanent solution for LWCF. Daines is only the Republican member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to cosponsor S.338.\r\nDaines has been actively working to secure funding for LWCF. Dainessuccessfully includedan amendment in this year'sInterior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Act to increase LWCF programs by nearly $14 million, bringing the overall total funding for LWCF to the FY2015 enacted level of $306 million.\r\nDaines also helpedsecure permanent reauthorizationof LWCF in the bipartisanEnergy Policy Modernization Act of 2015,which passed the Energy and Natural Resources Committee earlier this year.\r\nAdditionally, Daines has consistently championed LWCF both in the House and the Senate. Daines recently sent a letter to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Harry Reid urging them to prioritize action to reauthorize LWCF. The letter is availablehere.\r\nBelow are excerpts from Daines' floor remarks:\r\nWe can still do the right thing.We can still reauthorize thisimportant program.\r\nThere's a lot of options on thetable to get this done.We can still do the right thing.We need to double down ourefforts and reauthorize thismost important program.\r\nI'm a proud cosponsor ofmultiple pieces of legislationto make LWCF permanent andI'm continuing to fight to reauthorizethis program.\r\nIn fact, I'm the only Republicanmember on the Senate Energy andResources Committee to cosponsorS. 338  that's Senator Burr'slegislation that will secure apermanent solution for LWCF.\r\nPermanentreauthorization to LWCF is alsoincluded in the Senate EnergyPolicy Modernization Act.\r\nIt passed the Committee on alarge bipartisan vote.In the coming days, I think themomentum behind reauthorization is only going to grow stronger.\r\nWe have evidence of that here today as I'm joined by a number of mycolleagues who support LWCF.\r\nWe're not going to let this conversation die. We're going to continue to fightfor the permanentreauthorization of LWCF.It is a tool for public to ensure thatMontanans and Americans can haveaccess to their public lands.\r\nThis is not about a land grab.This is a land solution.\r\nIn conclusion, I'm hopefulthe momentum that we're seeinghere in the United States Senatewill lead the House toprioritize LWCF reauthorizationin the near future.\r\nIt is vital that we permanentlyreauthorize the Land and WaterConservation Fund and do notallow authorization to lapse.\r\nWe have less than 11 hours andthis program will lapse.\r\nWe need to get reauthorizationpassed to get on the President'sdesk and get this signed.\r\n###\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\t  \n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t \n\t\t\n\t\t\tPrint\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tEmail\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tTweet\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t \n\t\n\t\n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n  \n\t\n    \n    \n    \n    \n    \n    \t\n    \t\n\t    \t  \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tPrevious Article\n\t\t    \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tNext Article", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.daines.senate.gov/news/press-releases/daines-rallies-senators-in-support-of-lwcf-reauthorization"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.7321789637207985, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
