Trump\u2019s nominee Kirstjen Nielsen for the position of Secretary of Homeland Security.\u00a0\u00a0\r\n\u201cSecretary Nielson understands the increasing threats facing our country and has the experience to do what is necessary to keep Americans safe,\u201d\u00a0said Daines.\u00a0\u201cWith her confirmation, she can now focus on taking swift action to protect our national security, including securing our border and strengthening our cybersecurity.\u201d\r\nBackground:\r\nDaines is a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which has jurisdiction for the Department of Homeland Security including nominations subject to U.S. Senate confirmation.\r\nOn\u00a0October 18, 2017, Daines and Nielsen met in his Washington, D.C. and discussed strengthening cybersecurity, specifically addressing the\u00a0threat facing students and families\u00a0in the Flathead Valley, combatting meth abuse and securing the Northern border and Southern border.
