This comes in response\u00a0to a\u00a0letter\u00a0Senator Daines sent to Pruitt urging the\u00a0agency to do so.\r\n\u201cBy including the Silver Bow Creek/Butte Area\u00a0and Anaconda Co.\u00a0Smelter sites\u00a0among the EPA's targeted Superfund sites,\u00a0these\u00a0sites\u00a0will now\u00a0receive the attention, focus and prioritization that these communities deserve,\u201d\u00a0said Daines.\u00a0\u201cWith an additional sixteen\u00a0National Priority\u00a0List sites still in Montana, I will continue to work with the EPA to clean\u00a0up these sites\u00a0more expeditiously\u00a0and safely.\u201d\r\nDaines' Actions to Prioritize Montana Superfind Sites:\r\nOn June 27, 2017, Daines sent a\u00a0letter\u00a0to\u00a0Pruitt that included recommendations for improvements to the Superfund program.\r\nOn July 25, the EPA met Danies\u2019\u00a0request\u00a0in its\u00a0Superfund Task Force report.\r\nAdditional Background:\r\nAt the Silver Bow Creek/Butte Area site, EPA has taken steps to accelerate the process of reaching an agreement on a specific portion of the larger site\u2014the Butte Priority Soils Operable Unit\u2014and has set the end of January as a deadline for parties to do so. If an agreement cannot be reached, EPA will issue an order to ensure the remaining work is completed in a timely fashion.\u00a0\r\nAt the Anaconda Co. Smelter site, EPA has directed Atlantic Richfield Co. to complete residential and commercial property sampling and cleanup of lead and arsenic.
