Joe Donnelly says he will oppose President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.\r\nTrump named Georgia Rep. Tom Price as his choice to become HHS Secretary. Price, an outspoken opponent of the Affordable Care Act, has also been part of the House Republican effort to reform Medicare.\r\nDonnelly says Price has \u201cled the charge to privatize Medicare,\u201d a position the Hoosier Democrat strongly opposes. Last week, Donnelly released a\u00a0video discussing his opposition\u00a0to certain Medicare reforms \u2014 including those Price supports.\r\n\u201cI have opposed efforts to private Medicare in the past and I will oppose any effort to privatize Medicare or turn it into a voucher program in the future,\u201d Donnelly says.\r\nDonnelly says he\u2019ll work to improve health care access, but calls Price\u2019s nomination a \u201cdirect path to end Medicare as we know it.\u201d\r\nPrice\u2019s nomination is the first Trump cabinet appointment that Donnelly has publicly declared to oppose or support.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.donnelly.senate.gov/newsroom/article/donnelly-opposes-prices-nomination-for-hhs"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.1353748850524426, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
