Spending beyond budget caps. Authorizations for our military to arm and train Syrian rebels, but no amendments, no meaningful debate.\u00a0One vote.\u00a0Take it or leave it.\u00a0I\u2019m not going to take it,\u201d said Enzi. \u201cThis is not how Congress was designed to work.\u00a0 It\u2019s not how it should work.\u00a0It\u2019s not how it could work.\u00a0These catch-all spending bills with no opportunities for amendments are part of the reason we have a country deep in debt and a Congress with an approval rating lower than root canals or colonoscopies.\u201d\r\nEnzi continues to advocate for separate authorization and appropriation for the twelve areas of government. He has introduced biennial budget legislation that would force the federal government to budget over a two-year period, instead of the one-year window as it does now, giving Congress more time to scrutinize spending and eliminate duplication and waste.\r\nEnzi said the situation with ISIS in the Middle East is far too complex and important to stuff into an appropriations bill at the last minute.\r\n\u201cISIS has killed Americans in a brutal fashion and seeks to do us maximum harm.\u00a0We need to destroy this group, but I still have concerns about how it\u2019s done and think individual members of Congress should be able to offer their ideas not only for discussion, but actual votes,\u201d Enzi said.\r\nCongress is set to go out of session this week until after the November elections.\u00a0Enzi plans to spend the time in Wyoming visiting different businesses, attending civic events and meeting with individual Wyoming constituents.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.enzi.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/news-releases?ContentRecord_id=120926e9-6579-48ae-bb17-9354495d71aa"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0762689635157585, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
