Fischer\u2019s remarks\n\nClick here to download audio\n\nClick here to download video\n\nFollowing is a transcript of Senator Fischer\u2019s remarks as prepared for delivery:\n\nWhen it comes to the economy, we hear a lot about numbers \u2014 the inflation rate, how much more groceries cost, or how many businesses are struggling to find employees.\n\nThose numbers are important \u2014 they tell us the big picture story of where our economy is and where it\u2019s going. And right now, it\u2019s not a pretty picture.\n\nBut as elected representatives, we work for our people. It\u2019s critical that we listen to the voices of the people who live in our states and who are being deeply affected by the numbers we read in Bloomberg or The Wall Street Journal.\n\nIn a speech he made last week, President Biden promised that his economic policy is helping across the board, \u201cin rural America, the heartland, all across America.\u201d\n\nHe claimed that Bidenomics is the silver bullet for financial struggles among middle-class Americans around the country.\n\nI don\u2019t know who the President\u2019s talking to, but my experience hearing from Americans in the heartland is a lot different than what he said in that speech. Many Nebraskans are struggling under an unforgiving load of inflation, kickstarted by this administration\u2019s almost two trillion-dollar stimulus package in 2021.\n\nSo today, let\u2019s zoom in on Nebraska. When I\u2019m back in my home state, I\u2019m constantly hearing stories of hardship from my fellow Nebraskans \u2014 whether they\u2019re farmers, teachers or small business owners. It\u2019s truly painful to hear about some of the experiences people are having due to inflation.\n\nSo let me tell you about Bidenomics in Nebraska.\n\nWhen I stopped by a coffee shop in 2022, the owner told me his electric bill had skyrocketed from $40 a month to over $300 a month. That coffee shop owner is now gone. He couldn\u2019t afford Bidenomics and closed his shop. That\u2019s Bidenomics in Nebraska.\n\nA year later, not much has changed. As one of our Nebraska farmers told me a few weeks ago, \u201cPrices take the elevator up, but the stairs down.\u201d\n\nInflation causes costs to rise quickly, and they stay up there for a long time. One big economically irresponsible move from the administration sets the stage for years of struggles. That\u2019s Bidenomics in Nebraska.\n\nSeveral rural businesses in the state shared their struggles with a local newspaper earlier this year. Many of these business owners feel \u201cat a loss\u201d for what to do as their livelihoods crumble under pressure.\n\nA honey farmer shared that consistently rising prices squeeze his family into a difficult position when doing things as simple as putting their honey in jars. Sometimes they could only afford to get containers or lids for their honey \u2014 but not both.\n\nHe said, \u201cWe\u2019re kind of forgotten about way out here.\u201d\n\nThat\u2019s Bidenomics in Nebraska.\n\nThat doesn\u2019t line up with the President\u2019s boasts of an economy that works for middle-class Americans in the heartland.\n\nInstead, while the Biden administration chatters about its support for the middle class, thousands of people in that category are pulling out all the stops to pay their necessary expenses.\n\nThe Salvation Army of Lincoln reported a couple months ago that it\u2019s seen a 50% increase in service requests in just a year. People are going to charities to get help paying rent and utilities as the economy suffers.\n\nA Salvation Army officer said, \u201cFor people who are on medical equipment, having their electricity on is a very important aspect.\u201d\n\nThat\u2019s Bidenomics in Nebraska.\n\nThe president has a middle class problem. Average Americans are hollowing out their savings and taking on record debt just to keep up with stunning levels of inflation \u2014 or as the White House calls it, Bidenomics.\n\nThe President said last week, \u201cBidenomics is just another way of saying restoring the American Dream.\u201d\n\nWrong.\n\nSince when does the American Dream include taking a second job just to be able to afford rent? Or having to choose between containers and lids for honey jars? Or racking your brain for ways to catch up with an electricity bill that won\u2019t stop rising?\n\nThe President should step off the podium, stop delivering empty promises, and actually get down to business fixing the bloated economy he\u2019s created.\n\nNebraskans aren\u2019t listening to the administration\u2019s inflated claims about helping the middle class, but they are listening to mortgage increases and dwindling savings accounts. Americans know what Bidenomics looks like, M.
