U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that Charles Drew Health Center, Inc. was awarded a nearly $1.4 million grant for its Health Center Cluster:\r\nThe Charles Drew Health Center has provided compassionate care for Omaha families for over three decades, and I am pleased that they are receiving this significant grant. Community health centers like Charles Drew are critical to keeping our state healthy  I know this because I have had the opportunity visit and see first-hand the great work they do. I thank HHS for making this investment in the health care needs of Nebraskans, and will continue to work together with Charles Drew to help our communities.\r\nMore information:\r\nCharles Drew Health Center provides medical, dental, and mental health services to over 11,000 patients in Omaha, and does not turn away potential patients based on their inability to pay. The grant of $1,378,251 was awarded to Charles Drew's Health Center Cluster.\r\nSenator Fischer has been a long-timeadvocatefor community health centers. Earlier this year, Senator Fischerspokeat the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the new Charles Drew Health Center in Omaha. Senator Fischer also joined a bipartisanletterto the leaders of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee urging them to resolve the funding cliff community health centers are facing. She cosponsored the Community Health Investment, Modernization, and Excellence(CHIME) Act, a bill to reauthorize the Community Health Center Fund (CHCF) and the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) for five years.\r\nIn 2018, Nebraska's community health centers served over 101,000 patients.
