{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.gardner.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/gardner-reacts-to-va-hospital-announcement", "Gardner Reacts to VA Hospital Announcement", "2015-10-30", "2015", "2015-10", "Republican", "House", "CO", "Cory Gardner", "G000562", "www.gardner.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, DC Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement today following reports that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Army Corps of Engineers have awarded a contractwith Kiewit Turnerto complete construction on the new VA hospital in Aurora:\r\nVeterans in Colorado and across the West have waited too long for the facility they were promised.They have endured delay after delay and been dispirited by the VA's mismanagement and cost overruns, saidGardner. \"The final spending authorization that Congress passed in September coupled with the VA's and the Corps' signed contract paves the way to finish the state-of-the-art facility veterans deserve.I join Colorado veterans in awaiting the project's completion, andI'll continue to fight for transparency and accountability from the VA.\"\r\nSenator Gardner has been an advocate for the completion of the VA Hospital in Aurora. In his first month in office, he teamed up with fellow members of the Colorado delegation to introduce theAurora VA Hospital Financing and Construction Reform Act of 2015. Many of the reforms in that Act were later incorporated into bills funding the Aurora hospital. Senator Gardner has continued topress for accountabilityat the VA, demanding that those responsible for delays and cost overruns be held accountable.\r\nHe was instrumental in pressing for the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs to hold afield hearingin Colorado in April. In May, Senator Gardner helped secure a temporary round of funding needed to continue construction. And in September, Gardner was instrumental in the passage through both theHouseand theSenate of the last round of funding necessary to complete construction.\r\n\r\n###\r\nCory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado.
