U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked debate on the latest coronavirus relief package.\r\nThe Americanpeople are sick of the cynical political games Washington politicians are playing with this desperately needed economic relief. They expect us to do our jobs, and it's shameful that Senate Democrats once again blocked common-sense, bipartisan relief because it doesn't include all of their partisan wish list. Why not pass the bill, send it to the House for their amendments, and move it forward on a bipartisan basis?said Senator Gardner. This relief package extended enhanced unemployment benefits, provided billions of dollars to support childcare services and students' safe return to in-person learning, allowed businesses to receive a second Paycheck Protection Program loan, and provided tens of billions of dollars for COVID-19 testing, containment, and vaccine development and distribution. I believe we can and should do more, and I will keep fighting for additional relief to help Coloradans through COVID-19, but opponents of this bill cannot justify denying relief simply because it doesn't include everything they want.\r\nYou can read more about Senator Gardner's actions to protect Coloradans from COVID-19here.\r\nThe coronavirus relief package contains:\r\n \r\n$105 billion to support students' safe return to in-person learning and educational opportunities\r\n$16 billion for testing and related containment efforts\r\n$31 billion for activities like vaccine development and distribution\r\n$20 billion in farm assistance\r\n$15 billion to support childcare services\r\nChanges to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to allow a second loan, with reforms to require new applications to show revenue loss\r\nSimplifying the loan forgiveness application process for current and future PPP recipients receiving loans of $150,000 or less\r\nEnhanced unemployment benefits of $300 per week through December 27, 2020\r\n$10 billion in assistance to the United States Postal Service (USPS)\r\n \r\n###\r\nCory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado.
