Gillibrand", "G000555", "www.gillibrand.senate.gov", "gillibrand", "https://www.gillibrand.senate.gov/press-releases/page/", "scraper", "Gillibrand: \u201cIt is unconscionable to extend troop deployments and continue to waste tens of billions of taxpayer dollars on their failed war, launched without a clear mission, coherent strategy, or exit plan.\u201d\n\nU.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), member of the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, issued the following statement on the Wall Street Journal report that Secretary Hegseth is extending troop deployments in the Mideast amid a failed Iran war that has cost tens of billions of taxpayer dollars, wounded hundreds and killed 18 American service members, depleted our stockpile of long-range missiles and air defense interceptors, and cost New Yorkers billions at the gas pump.\n\n\u201cThe immense sacrifice of our service members and their families is being betrayed by the failures of Secretary Hegseth and President Trump. It is unconscionable to extend troop deployments and continue to waste tens of billions of taxpayer dollars on their failed war, launched without a clear mission, coherent strategy, or exit plan.\n\n\u201cThis administration has unlimited money for bombs, ballrooms, and billionaires, but nothing for hardworking families here at home struggling with higher costs on gas, groceries, and essentials because of this war.\n\n\u201cIf this administration believed in honoring the sacrifice of our service members and their families, they would bring the troops home, end this wasteful war, and replace Pete Hegseth.\u201d\n\nThis comes weeks after multiple public reports detailing dismal conditions for sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln from service members\u2019 families and the administration\u2019s callous, despicable response to the plight of America\u2019s heroes.\n\nSecretary Hegseth has left our military rudderless, pushed out our best and brightest service members, and embarrassed our military over and over again.\n\nAs this administration plans to extend troop deployments, remember their statements to the American people that this war was a \u201ctotal and complete victory,\u201d \u201cwon\u2019t be difficult,\u201d was \u201cprojected [to last] four to five weeks,\u201d was \u201cwinding down,\u201d was ending \u201cvery soon,\u201d was \u201cahead of schedule,\u201d was going to end in \u201ctwo or three weeks,\u201d then \u201ctwo to three days,\u201d then \u201cvery close,\u201d then again a \u201cfew days,\u201d then \u201cgoing to end pretty soon.\u201d\n\nNone of this has been true.\n\n###", 1, "2026-09-04T09:19:37Z", "2026-09-04T09:20:58Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.gillibrand.senate.gov/news/press/release/gillibrand-statement-on-hegseth-extending-mideast-deployments-into-2027/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9960830211639404, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
