Chuck Grassley and fellow senators asked the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services to examine the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services\u2019 (CMS) oversight of the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program. \u00a0After the letter, Grassley continued to push for OIG involvement. \u00a0Grassley learned that CMS knew in 2009 in that EpiPens and two other drugs were misclassified under the program, leading to taxpayer overpayments by hundreds of millions of dollars or more. \u00a0 The OIG confirmed that it will conduct three new reviews of the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program. \u00a0 Grassley made the following comment on this development.\u201cThe more we learn about the misclassifications, the more we know this program is in dire need of proper oversight. \u00a0 It\u2019s unclear whether CMS took any action between 2009 and now to get the EpiPen classification back on track after being told about the misclassification. \u00a0If CMS did nothing, that\u2019s a dereliction of duty to the taxpayers. \u00a0The OIG is right to look at this program and help determine whether it works or doesn\u2019t work as intended.\u201d\u00a0-30-", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/grassley-watchdog-right-review-misclassifications-under-medicaid-drug-rebate"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8827880956232548, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
