It\u2019s a hub for major logistics and medical device manufacturing,\u201d Hagerty said. \u201cIt\u2019s also home to advanced technologies like xAI, but it\u2019s been troubled by serious violent crime.\u201d\n\nThe Memphis Safe Task Force has targeted violent crimes stemming from street gangs and drug traffickers, building upon the work of an existing FBI task force. Director Serralta testified that, as of April 2026, the operation has yielded 8,701 total arrests by federal officers and an additional 1,426 illegal firearm seizures.\n\nPatel noted the joint effort of federal, state and local law enforcement officers has greatly contributed to the safety of Memphis, and the FBI is committed to the long-term success of the mission. \u201cThanks to you and the leadership in Tennessee, we opened our new office in Memphis to permanently assure the citizens of Tennessee that we\u2019re not going anywhere,\u201d Patel said.\n\nHagerty commended the success achieved by the task force, calling it \u201ca true example of where cooperation can make a difference here in America.
