Council recently enacted two pieces of temporary legislation that would require Metropolitan PD (MPD) to collect and release body-camera footage and personal information of federal officers.\n\nWASHINGTON\u2014Today,United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), along with Senators Ted Budd (R-NC), Mike Lee (R-UT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Pete Ricketts (R-NE) and Rick Scott (R-FL), introduced two joint resolutions of disapproval, S.J. Res. 194 and S.J. Res. 195, against the D.C. City Council\u2019s efforts to target law enforcement officers. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ-09) introduced companion resolutions in the House of Representatives.\n\nPresident Trump is committed to making the District of Columbia safe again for federal employees and visitors through the D.C. Task Force. Rather than welcoming federal assistance, the D.C. City Council has instead produced two pieces of legislation targeting federal officers: theBody-Worn Camera Transparency for Use of Force Act Temporary Amendment Act and theFull Accountability in Arrest Reporting Temporary Amendment Act.\n\nThe acts require the collection and publication of body-camera footage, along with the personal information of officers. Together, these acts mandate the disclosure of information, resulting in the doxxing of federal officers enforcing the law in the District, and feeding inflammatory material to agitators to create unrest.\n\nThe council\u2019s hostility towards federal law enforcement must be strongly condemned. Congress has a responsibility to nullify D.C.\u2019s attempts to interfere with federal law enforcement policy and undermine President Trump\u2019s historic efforts to make D.C. safe.\n\n\u201cThe D.C. Council has no business pressuring federal policymakers\u2014or federal law enforcement\u2014to appease their radical base. The council has shamefully enacted proposals that would invite doxxing of the very same federal law enforcement officers that have made our capital city safe by requiring the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to collect and release footage and personal information of federal law enforcement officers after a serious use of force,\u201d said Hagerty. \u201cI am calling on my colleagues in the Senate to join me in condemning the council\u2019s dangerous policies, particularly during a time when ICE officers are experiencing an 8,000% increase in death threats and a 1,300% increase in assaults.\u201d\n\n\u201cFederal law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, enforce our laws, and defend the American people. They should not have to worry that doing their jobs will result in their names, identities, and personal information being exposed to criminals, violent extremists, or those seeking retaliation. The D.C. Council\u2019s actions would place a target on the backs of the men and women who serve in federal law enforcement. Transparency and accountability are important, but they must never come at the expense of officer safety or the integrity of ongoing investigations,\u201d said Gosar. \u201cCongress has a responsibility to protect federal officers from reckless policies that invite harassment, intimidation, and violence. Those who enforce our laws deserve our gratitude and support\u2014not political efforts to expose them and their families to unnecessary danger.\u201d\n\n\u201cIt is extremely concerning that the D.C. Council has chosen to overtly undermine federal law by doxing officers for doing their job to uphold law and order. This interference by local government seriously undermines the safety and security of our federal officers. I am proud to join Senator Hagerty in disapproving of these misguided policies,\u201d said Budd.\n\n\u201cFor years, the D.C. Council allowed crime and decay to plague our nation\u2019s capital. Now that President Trump has saved lives and cleaned up Washington by deploying federal law enforcement, the far-left Council seeks to doxx and hinder the courageous men and women doing the job D.C. refuses to do. We should not tolerate it,\u201d said Lee.\n\n\u201cInstead of helping our law enforcement officers make our nation\u2019s capital safer, D.C. officials are targeting our brave women and men in blue.
