The report highlights several of Senator Hassan\u2019s bipartisan efforts to strengthen state and local governments\u2019 cybersecurity.\n\n\u201cFrom cyberattacks on the Town of Peterborough to the Sunapee School District, it\u2019s clear that we need to help communities to defend against cyberattacks,\u201d said Senator Hassan. \u201cThis report highlights the progress we\u2019ve made in strengthening state and local cybersecurity, including through programs that I\u2019ve pushed for as Chair of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Spending Oversight, as well as the challenges that we must continue working to address. I will keep working across the aisle on ways to strengthen cybersecurity, including through improving the federal government\u2019s coordination with state and local entities.\u201d\n\nThe GAO\u2019s report reviewed federal efforts to provide ransomware prevention and response assistance to state, local, tribal, and territorial government organizations.\n\nAs part of GAO\u2019s findings, the report highlights various initiatives that Senator Hassan helped establish or fund, including:\n\nThe state and local cybersecurity grant program which Senator Hassan secured $1 billion for to help local governments better protect their networks from cyber intrusions;\n\nThe National Guard\u2019s cyber security assistance to state and local governments, which Senator Hassan has worked to set up;\n\nCyber incident response teams that Senator Hassan and Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) worked to enshrine into law to help prevent cyberattacks at all levels of government and the private sector, and help mitigate the impact of such attacks when they occur; and\n\nThe Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center program which ensures that the federal government communicates information on cyber threats and best practices to state and local entities.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:20:33Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.hassan.senate.gov/news/press-releases/gao-releases-report-requested-by-senator-hassan-on-federal-support-for-state-and-local-cybersecurity"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.062122104689479, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
