The bill would help prepare American workers to succeed in the AI economy.\n\n\u201cAmerican workers cannot be left behind as American corporations continue to push forward with the development and adoption of artificial intelligence,\u201d said Senator Hassan. \u201cThis bipartisan legislation helps the federal government better assess the ways in which artificial intelligence is changing our economy and helps ensure that increased automation does not result in fewer jobs for hard-working American families.\u201d\n\n\u201cWe have to understand how AI is changing the workforce so we can equip American workers with the skills necessary to stay ahead of China and lead the world,\u201d said Senator Banks.\n\nKey Provisions of the AI Workforce PREPARE Act:\n\nCreate an AI Workforce Research Hub\n\nSolicit ideas from the public and convene researchers, technical experts, business, and labor to improve data collection on AI and the workforce.\n\nEnhance the Labor Department\u2019s authorities to hire a core group of AI experts.\n\nCarry out a pilot project to produce statistics on workers\u2019 job changes as they are affected by AI.\n\nIncrease researchers\u2019 access to the federal government\u2019s workforce data.\n\nConduct prize competitions to better understand AI adoption, job impacts, and how AI systems augment or automate tasks in particular occupations.\n\nFacilitate voluntary public-private partnerships to share anonymized data on how users are adopting AI.\n\nImprove AI-related questions in federal surveys.\n\nUpdate the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) Act to provide basic information to employees if AI is a substantial factor in a layoff.\n\nImprove the Bureau of Labor Statistics\u2019 occupational projections.\n\nProduce a report on how better AI forecasts can be incorporated into grantmaking decisions.\n\nConduct a study on how to design more effective rapid retraining programs to assist workers displaced by AI.\n\nUse AI-informed projections to update states\u2019 in-demand occupation lists, which are used to allocate training funding.\n\nEncourage federal agencies, states, local governments, and businesses to collect and report labor market data in more consistent ways.\n\nApply existing privacy protections and accessibility requirements to all data collected and exchanged.\n\nFull text of the bill can be found here.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T20:09:11Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.hassan.senate.gov/news/press-releases/senator-hassan-colleagues-introduce-the-bipartisan-ai-workforce-prepare-act"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.3325658403337, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
