Hatch, along with Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), introduced the\u00a0Protecting Student Privacy Act\u00a0in July to strengthen federal law to prohibit the sharing and use of\u00a0private student data\u00a0to third-party vendors, as well as to provide parents with clear information about where their children\u2019s information is stored.\u00a0\r\n\u201cIt\u2019s good to see that states are taking the important initiative to safeguard student\u2019s data, and it\u2019s time the federal government follows suit to tighten federal laws that govern student privacy,\u201d Hatch said. \u00a0\u201cThe legislation Sen. Markey and I introduced in July does that by closing a loophole in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
