{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.hawley.senate.gov/hawley-introduces-legislation-to-honor-the-national-churchill-museum-as-a-national-historic-landmark/", "Hawley Introduces Legislation to Honor the National Churchill Museum As a National Historic Landmark", "2024-06-20", "2024", "2024-06", "Republican", "Senate", "MO", "Josh Hawley", "H001089", "www.hawley.senate.gov", "hawley", "https://www.hawley.senate.gov/press-releases/page/", "scraper", "Today U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced new legislation to designate America\u2019s National Churchill Museum, located on the Westminster College campus in Fulton, Missouri, as a National Historic Landmark.\n\nOn March 5, 1946, Churchill spoke at Westminster College and spoke the famous words, \u201cFrom Stettin in the Baltic, to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent.\u201d In the 1960s, Westminster College set out to celebrate what would be the 20th anniversary of Churchill\u2019s visit, and imported a 17th century church from London to Fulton. The church of St. Mary Aldermanbury was moved stone-by-stone to Westminster\u2019s campus. Reconstruction was completed in 1969, and is today\u2019s location of the museum.\n\n\u201cNearly 80 years ago, Sir Winston Churchill marked the beginning of the Cold War with his \u2018Iron Curtain\u2019 speech in Fulton, Missouri. I am proud to honor one of the world\u2019s greatest leaders, and one of America\u2019s closest allies, with this legislation,\u201dsaid Senator Hawley.\n\nThe America\u2019s National Churchill Museum National Historic Landmark Act would:\n\nDirect the Secretary of Interior to establish America\u2019s National Churchill Museum in Fulton, Missouri as a National Historic Landmark. A National Historic Landmark (NHL) is a building, district, object, site, or structure that is officially recognized by the United States government for its outstanding historical significance. There are currently over 2,600 National Historic Landmarks in the United States, including 37 in Missouri.\n\nDirect the National Park Service to conduct a Special Resource Study to consider future potential designations for the site. Before enacting a law to add a unit, Congress often first enacts a law requiring NPS to conduct a Special Resource Study (SRS) of the area, typically to assess its national significance, suitability and feasibility, and management options.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T18:24:47Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.hawley.senate.gov/hawley-introduces-legislation-to-honor-the-national-churchill-museum-as-a-national-historic-landmark/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7560211233794689, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
