(KFDA) - Cannon Air Force Base will receive over $80 million in federal funding for key infrastructure projects, part of more than $200 million secured by New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich for the state with a focus on military construction.\n\nThe projects include an $80 million, 192-bed dormitory at the base, as well as over $8 million to renovate and construct a training facility for security forces.\n\nCannon Air Force Base was founded in the 1920s and is home to the 27th Special Operations Wing.\n\n\u201cThese are the very best, our nation\u2019s war fighters and they\u2019re just awesome sons and daughters of America,\u201d said Mayor Mike Morris, City of Clovis. \u201cAnd so, we\u2019re proud to be home to them while they\u2019re stationed at Cannon and really everything that we do here is with them in mind. I think of us as one community.\u201d\n\nThe City of Clovis works closely with Cannon and families and said it is grateful for the support.\n\nInfrastructure improvements target quality of life\n\nThe commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base said strengthening security forces infrastructure ensures that airmen remain mission-ready.\n\n\u201cThis kind of investment is not just about construction\u2014it\u2019s about giving our people the foundation they need to perform at their best, day in and day out. Our Air Force is strong because of the airmen who serve and the families who support them\u2014and providing them the resources to do so is fundamental to our readiness,\" said Col.
