Both cooperatives will also use the funds to improve existing lines and make other system improvements including investments in smart grid projects, according to the announcement.\r\n\u201cOur electric cooperatives do a tremendous job of providing reliable and affordable power to individuals and communities throughout our state,\u201d said Sen. John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a member of the Agriculture Committee.\r\n\r\nSen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., said Cass County Electric Cooperative will spend $4.9 million to further smart grid projects.\r\n\r\nNorth Dakota counties to benefit from the support include Dickey, Barnes, Sargent, Stutsman, Richland, LaMoure, Cass, Ransom, Steele and Traill, she said.\r\nDakota Valley Electric Cooperative will spend $2.5 million to further smart grid projects.
