Capt. Al Gomez, West Point Great Lakes Regional Commander for Admissions, will speak at the Fargo Armed Forces Center, 3920 31st St. NW, Fargo, on Friday, September 13th at 7 p.m. \r\nGomez will give a presentation specific to the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, but the session will be valuable to anyone interested in information about admissions to any of the service academies. Every year, Hoeven, Heitkamp and Cramer each nominate North Dakota students for admission at our nation\u2019s military service academies. \r\n\u201cAttending a military service academy is a distinct privilege, and we are honored to nominate many of our state\u2019s best students to represent North Dakota at our nation\u2019s distinguished academies,\u201d the delegation said in a joint statement. \u201cStudents attending the service academies are able to serve their country while pursuing a military career and receiving a world-class education. We encourage interested students to attend the upcoming briefing, and contact our offices to begin the application process.\u201d\r\nThe North Dakota delegation encourages all interested North Dakota high school graduates or graduating seniors to apply through one of their offices to receive a nomination to one of the military service academies. Applicants must be at least 17 years old but not past their 23rd birthday on July 1, 2014, and must also be U.S. citizens, unmarried and have no dependents. They must also demonstrate excellence in academics and leadership. Application materials are available online through the senators\u2019 and congressman\u2019s official websites.\r\nAll three of North Dakota\u2019s Congressional offices will accept applications for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; the Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colorado; the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. The application deadline is Friday, October 11. Military academy interviews with the delegation are scheduled for Tuesday, November 5 in Bismarck and Wednesday, November 6 in Fargo.
