U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship, announced three federal grants totaling $210,000 to the Lewis & Clark Regional Development Council, Roosevelt-Custer Regional Council for Development, and the Souris Basin Planning Council to help them establish comprehensive plans to grow and diversify their local economies.\r\nHaving the right economic strategy in place is key to taking on opportunities and mitigating challenges to keep local communities thriving, said Heitkamp. These federal funds will assist the regional economic development councils in central and western North Dakota so they can put together comprehensive plans that work with both the public and private sectors to leverage each communitys assets to grow their economies.\r\nThese federal funds will be distributed as follows:\r\n \r\nLewis & Clark Regional Development Council: $70,000 in federal funds to put together an economic development strategy that works with both the public and private sectors that will assist in the counties of Burleigh, Emmons, Grant, Kidder, McLean, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sheridan, and Sioux.\r\n \r\n \r\nRoosevelt-Custer Regional Council for Development: $70,000 in federal funds to put together an economic development strategy that works with both the public and private sectors that will assist in the counties of Adams, Billings, Bowman, Dunn, Golden Valley, Hettinger, Slope, and Stark.\r\n \r\n \r\nSouris Basin Planning Council: $70,000 in federal fund to put together an economic development strategy that works with both the public and private sectors that will assist in the counties of Bottineau, Burke, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville, and Ward.\r\n \r\nThe federal funds are made available through the Economic Development Administration (EDA) a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
