U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship, announced two federal grants totaling $140,000 to the Lake Agassiz Regional Council and the North Central Planning Council that will support efforts to develop and implement economic growth strategies in North Dakota.\r\nLaying the groundwork to grow our local economies will help North Dakota succeed well into the future, said Heitkamp. Strong economies support families, grow small businesses, and make sure that folks are able to show up to good-paying jobs each morning, and these federal funds will help counties in northeastern North Dakota develop a game plan to boost their local economies.\r\nThese federal funds will be distributed as follows:\r\n \r\nLake Agassiz Regional Council: $70,000 in federal funds to put together an economic development strategy that will assist the counties of Cass, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele, and Traill.\r\n \r\n \r\nNorth Central Planning Council: $70,000 in federal funds to put together an economic development strategy that will assist the counties of Benson, Cavalier, Eddy, Ramsey, Rolette, and Towner as well as Spirit Lake Nation and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indian Reservation.\r\n \r\nThe federal funds are made available through the Economic Development Administration (EDA) a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce. This EDA funding helps communities establish economic development strategies that aid North Dakota economic development councils across the state in bringing together both public and private resources that will help small businesses, create jobs, and long-term growth.\r\nHeitkamp received the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for her work in the U.S. Senate to support small businesses through commonsense regulatory reform, making sure small businesses have a seat at the table when rules are made, and pushing for investments to support startups in rural areas and small cities to help them get off the ground.
