Heitkamp was one of three Senators to be honored at the Defense Communities National Summit in Washington, DC.
In citing the reason for Senator Heitkamp’s selection for the award, the ADC wrote, “Senator Heitkamp has been instrumental in her advocacy to North Dakota’s defense community priorities, which include advocating for the next tanker mission to Grand Forks Air Force Base, ensuring that the top leaders at the Department of Defense understand clearly that maintaining and modernizing our nuclear triad are national security priorities, so important to Minot and our country. Senator Heitkamp also never misses an opportunity to discuss the proud history of the 119th Happy Hooligans at Fargo National Air Guard Base and our National Guard members with top Air Force and National Guard Leaders.”
“The ones who really deserve the credit are North Dakota’s servicemembers and the communities that care about them. North Dakota’s defense communities face unique challenges and it is my honor to work every day to support them,” said Heitkamp.
Since being sworn in to the Senate, Heitkamp has spent a substantial amount of time advocating for North Dakota’s two air bases and National Guard. She has met with top military officials to educate them on the unique benefits North Dakota’s defense communities provide our military. In addition to spending time with military leaders, Heitkamp also works closely with community leaders to support our installations.
The ADC is an association serving defense communities across the country, promoting healthy relationships between state governments, communities and the military.
-END-", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.heitkamp.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=dfa1b3c1-01e8-4f30-96c8-a2af6859dfdf
