U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today visited Flasher Public School to donate 15 U.S. Senate computers for use in classrooms.\r\nThe U.S. Senate Computers for Schools Program helps public schools take advantage of the information age by channeling surplus Senate computers into classrooms countrywide. All registered public schools in the United States and territories are eligible.\r\nHeitkamp selected Flasher Public School to receive the 15 gently-used computers so the school can meet students technology needs without having to buy all new equipment. She also recommended Ed Clapp Elementary School in Fargo, which she visited Tuesday to donate 10 computers.\r\nComputers are a critical education tool in every classroom, which is why Im so excited to provide computers that will enrich Flasher students learning, said Heitkamp. The community is excited about them, the school is excited about them, and the kids are certainly excited about how these computers will improve their classrooms. Education is the key to success, so Ill keep looking for opportunities to bring new technology to help kids learn in our states schools  particularly in rural communities like Flasher.\r\nHeitkamp has long fought to improve educational opportunities for all students  whether by expanding access to technology, calling for increased funding resources, or by improving school breakfast and lunch.\r\nIn January, Heitkamp held a roundtable discussion with North Dakota teachersto hear about the challenges rural schools face, and to assess how she can address their concerns in the Senate. During the discussion, educators laid out their priorities and spoke about solutions to better meet the needs of North Dakotas education system and students, including a plan to address Native American educational issues, expand early childhood education, and increase preparation for and access to college.\r\nEarlier this year, Heitkampre-introduced her bipartisan bill with Republican Senator Susan Collins from Maine to give schools greater access to the tools and resources they need to offer healthy food options for students, reduce waste, and make resources stretch further. HerSchool Food ModernizationAct would authorize grants and loan assistance to help schools purchase and upgrade equipment, as well as strengthen training to help school food personnel meet updated nutrition standards  all at no additional cost to taxpayers.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.heitkamp.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=2366cc69-4c91-4dae-9ac0-864220e52c66"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.9764280878007412, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
