The federal funds announced today will strengthen North Dakota\u2019s and the Spirit Lake Tribe\u2019s ability to combat substance abuse and treat mental health so individuals and families can lead healthy and productive lives.\u201d\r\nThese federal funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services\u2019 Center for Mental Health Services and are distributed as follows:\r\n \r\nSpirit Lake Tribe: $195,587\r\n \r\n \r\nNorth Dakota Federation of Families for Children\u2019s Mental Health: $95,000\r\n \r\nHeitkamp is a strong advocate for addressing mental health challenges and the potential substance abuse that they can lead to. This summer, Heitkamp worked to address the challenges children in Indian Country face by highlighting the impact that a traumatic experience can have on the mental wellbeing of individuals, particularly among children.
