{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.heitkamp.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=B4EF2914-B875-4777-9292-E83723962450", "Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding for Education and Economic Development in Indian Country", "2016-09-26", "2016", "2016-09", "Democrat", "House", "ND", "Heidi Heitkamp", "H001069", "www.heitkamp.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "MINOT, N.D. \u2013\u00a0U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced eight federal grants totaling over $1.4 million to spur economic development in Indian Country and further education that will support Native American communities.\r\n\u201cAll students should be able to grasp every opportunity to obtain the education, training, and initiative they need to support themselves, their families, and lift their communities up,\u201d said Heitkamp. \u201cWith the right investments in education we can boost economic development, especially in Indian Country where the need for well-paying jobs is critical for future success. This federal funding will assist tribal colleges in making critical infrastructure investments that will support education and spark innovation to help solve challenges in tribal communities.\u201d\r\nThe following two federal grants are made available through the Indian Education Professional Development Program administered under the U.S. Department of Education to increase training and education of Native Americans to become educators in Indian Country:\r\n \r\nUniversity of Mary: $367,702\r\n \r\n \r\nSitting Bull College: $290,837\r\n \r\nThe following federal funds are made available through the Tribal College Initiative Grant Program under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA):\r\n \r\nCandeska Cikana Community College: $143,000 in federal funds to construct a cultural center.\r\n \r\n \r\nNueta Hidatsa Sahnish College: $ 143,000 in federal funds to make physical improvements on campus.\r\n \r\n \r\nSitting Bull College: $143,000 in federal funding to improve student housing.\r\n \r\n \r\nTurtle Mountain Community College: $143,000 in federal funding to upgrade facilities.\r\n \r\n \r\nUnited Tribes Technical College: $143,000 in federal funding to improve road infrastructure on campus.\r\n \r\nThe following federal grant is made available through the Rural Business Development Grant Program authorized under USDA:\r\n \r\nTurtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians: $103,994 in federal funding for entrepreneurship training and technical support for a local food initiative.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.heitkamp.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=B4EF2914-B875-4777-9292-E83723962450"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5645958483219147, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
