A member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax issues, Heller urged his colleagues to support his measure to help American families confront the rising costs of raising children. “The U.S. Senate’s passage of my amendment is a recognition that we must reduce the burden on hardworking Nevadans who are raising children and struggling to make ends meet,” said Heller. “We are on our way to providing tax relief to Nevadans and Americans throughout the country so that they can keep more of their hard-earned paychecks and invest in their families. As we move forward, I’ll continue to fight for policies that make it easier for Nevadans to provide a better life for their kids.” Earlier today, Heller spoke on the U.S. Senate floor about the importance of providing tax relief to families. You may view his remarks here or by clicking on the image below.

Heller’s remarks as prepared for delivery:
Mister President, I rise to speak in support of my amendment – Heller Amendment Number 1146 – to provide tax relief for families with children.
This week, we’re setting in motion one of my top priorities: bringing tax relief to hardworking Nevadans.
For decades, Nevadans have been waiting for an affordable and fair tax code that they can understand.
I have long said that our tax code is too costly and too complex. We need to simplify our code in a way that creates jobs and allows Nevadans to keep more of their hard-earned tax dollars.
And with this budget, we’re taking an enormous first step in providing meaningful relief to Nevadans and middle-class families across the nation.
Under our leadership and thanks to the good work of the Chairman of the Budget Committee, we are finally in a place in which we can provide real, meaningful tax relief to the American taxpayer.
As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I’ve been working with my colleagues to craft a tax bill that accomplishes three major goals:
Number 1: creates more jobs
Number 2: increases wages
And number 3: boosts American competitiveness.
So, the question is, what does tax reform mean to an average Nevadan who works hard and is trying to provide a better life for his or her children?
It means that you can keep more of your hard-earned paycheck and it will be easier for you to file your taxes.
Less paperwork, more money.
Lower rates for businesses mean more jobs, higher wages, and growth in our communities – all of which will benefit you.
As the son of a school cook and an auto mechanic, I understand the discipline and hard work that goes into every dollar and every paycheck.
And I’m working to see that you have more of it in your back pocket.
Mister/Madam President, that is why my amendment is absolutely critical, because it delivers this desperately needed relief and lets middle-class families keep more of their hard-earned paychecks, helping them make ends meet and invest in their families.
For too long, American families have been struggling with stagnant wages and incomes, as well as slow economic growth, made worse by the policies of the Obama Administration.
In inflation-adjusted terms, nationwide median household income stayed below what it was in 2007 all the way up to 2015.
And last year, it was only $890 more than it was in 2007.
In my home-state of Nevada, the situation is even worse: Median household income still hasn’t fully recovered and is $7,000 lower today than it was in 2007.
Tax relief for families with children – through an enhanced Child Tax Credit, for example – will help begin to address the financial insecurities facing American families, and will help families confront the rising costs of raising children.
Expansion of the Child Tax Credit will help hard-working middle-class families in many ways, allowing them to keep more of their hard-earned income to use for the needs of their families and children.
I urge everyone in this chamber to support children, support middle-class families, and support my amendment.
With that, I yield the floor.
###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.heller.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/pressreleases?ContentRecord_id=1186EB77-A724-4FB1-86A1-1BA078684C8D
