According to the non-partisan Tax Foundation, this legislation is expected to give a typical Nevada family of four a tax cut of approximately $2,200. Additionally, the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation recently confirmed thatevery income category of Nevadas roughly 1.4 million individual tax return filers will receive a tax cut.\r\nEarlier today, Heller spoke on the U.S. Senate floor about why tax relief is needed. He cited that in Nevada, real median household income is $7,000 lower today than it was 10 years ago after years of historically low economic growth. He also pointed to reports that nearly 8 in 10 Americans who work full-time are living paycheck to paycheck and went on to state that Nevadans are more likely to be living paycheck to paycheck that Americans living elsewhere. In Nevada, housing costs are reported to consume nearly a quarter of Nevadans paychecks and childcare expenses are skyrocketing. In fact, it has been reported that the average single parent living in Nevada may have to spend as much as 36 percent of his or her annual income to send an infant to center-based care. Heller also highlighted that not only are Americans struggling to get by, they are struggling to plan for their futures. Nearly 1 in 5 Americans have nothing set aside to cover an unexpected emergency, while almost one-third of Americans dont have at least $500 to cover an unexpected emergency expense.\r\nWhether its the single mother in Gardnerville who works full-time or the ambitious entrepreneur in Reno who started a business while going to school, Nevadans throughout the state will benefit from the passage of this historic legislation. This bill will provide much-needed tax relief to Nevadas middle-class families, jumpstart job creation, and drive growth in our communities throughout the state. From my provision to double the child tax credit from current law to lowering rates on middle-class families, our legislation finally gives Nevadans the break that they deserve by allowing them to keep more of their paychecks, said Heller. As a member of the tax-writing Senate Finance Committee, I thank Chairman Hatch for his leadership and Im incredibly proud of our work to move tax reform legislation for the first time in more than 30 years. As the son of a school cook and an auto mechanic, I was told that if you work hard and play by the rules then anything is possible, but the problem today is that too many people think that isnt the case anymore. This bill will change that by empowering families and restoring their faith in the American dream, and I look forward to seeing this legislation sent to the Presidents desk later this week.\r\nThe legislation includes an amendment that Heller filed with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) toincrease the child tax credit to $2,000, or double it from current law.It also includes Hellers measure to make it easier for startups and businessesto give employees an ownership stake in their companys successby awarding stock options. Additionally, Heller was able to protect the tax exemption for stadium bonds, which is critical to preserving the influx of business and growth associated with the construction of the Raiders stadium in Las Vegas, NV.\r\nBackground on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:\r\n \r\nWill lead to a 1.7 percent increase in GDP over the long term and 1.5 percent higher wages (Source: Tax Foundation).\r\nIncreases the child tax credit for families in Nevada by 100 percent changing current law of $1,000 to $2,000.
