The state and local sales tax deduction helps level an uneven play field by ensuring that Nevada is afforded the same treatment in the federal tax code as states with an income tax.\r\nThe Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act assures homeowners owing more on their mortgages than their homes are now worth will not be hit with additional income taxes if part of their mortgage loan is forgiven, such as through a \u201cshort sale.\u201d\r\nHeller previously wrote to Congressional leaders requesting the extension of the state and local sales tax deduction and Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act.\r\nHeller also previously introduced legislation to extend the state and local sales tax deduction and Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act.\u00a0\r\nAs a member of the Senate Finance Committee in the 114th Congress, which has jurisdiction over these issues, Senator Heller will work to bring tax relief to more lower and middle class Nevadans.\u00a0\r\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.heller.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/pressreleases?ContentRecord_id=e88cc185-22d3-46e1-ba95-0f5adfffb61c"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9684599936008453, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
