Hirono (D-HI) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) and U.S. Representatives Ed Case (D-HI) and Jill Tokuda (D-HI) released the following statement on President Joe Biden\u2019s new supplemental appropriations request, which includes funding for disaster recovery on Maui and across the country.\n\n\u201cAlmost a year since the devastating fires on Maui, the people of Lahaina still need help. Their lives are nowhere near back to normal and it will take sustained support from the federal government to get them fully back on their feet. President Biden\u2019s new supplemental appropriations request is an important and necessary investment in them and disaster survivors across the country. Now Congress needs to pass this funding quickly and get people the help they urgently need.\u201d\n\nPresident Biden\u2019s new request for disaster response funding includes a $4 billion increase from the request made last October.
