Hirono announced that the Makana North Shore Urgent Care will receive a nearly $1.1 million U.S. Department of Agriculture loan to complete construction and help with operating costs of a new urgent care clinic to serve Kauai\u2019s north shore community.\r\n\u201cRural communities across Hawaii continue to face challenges in accessing health care services,\u201d said Senator Hirono. \u201cThis loan will help complete construction of the Makana North Shore Urgent Care Clinic, and ensure that the clinic has the necessary resources to serve Kauai\u2019s north shore.\u201d\r\n\u201cMakana Urgent Care Clinic will bring critical medical care to the north shore community of Kauai and provide many added benefits including laboratory and x-ray services to local physicians,\u201d said Makaala Kaaumoana, Member of the Makana North Shore Urgent Care Board of Directors. \u201cAs a nonprofit, the staff and Board of Directors are looking forward to being a partner, working together to take care of each other and our community.\u201d\r\n\u201cWe are in the final stages of construction of the Makana North Shore Urgent Care. A much needed medical facility on Kauai\u2019s North Shore,\u201d said Dr. Edward J Kimball, Makana Foundation President. \u201cThis facility is being built with the support of generous private donations from the local community and through a USDA Rural Development Loan. This project will provide 24/7 urgent medical care, including x-ray and lab facilities to a rural and remote population on Kauai. Further, this care will be delivered by a team of experienced board certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses. We are sincerely grateful for the USDA support and for the many efforts from Senator Hirono and her staff in helping this project come to fruition.\u201d\r\nThe Makana North Shore Urgent Care Clinic is currently under construction, and is scheduled to open in Spring 2018.
