Hirono joined with 36 Senators \u2013 including Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Harry Reid (D-NV), and Brian Schatz (D-HI) \u2013 and voted to stand up for middle class workers after Congressional Republicans moved to deny thousands of mine workers and widows the health care they earned.\r\nAfter the vote, Senator Hirono released the following statement:\r\n\u201cThe working people in our country need to know who\u2019s on their side. Workers in this country are getting screwed every single second, minute, and hour of the day. I\u2019m taking a stand on this bill to stand with them.\r\n\u201cThis fight is not just about coal miners. It\u2019s about all working people. Today, it\u2019s the coal miners. Tomorrow, it will be federal workers and other labor unions.\r\n\u201cI opposed this bill to send a message to Congressional Republicans and President-elect Trump.
