The funds are allocated through the DOJ\u2019s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program and will be used to hire additional police officers.\r\n\u201cThe Fargo and West Fargo Police Departments do a great job of keeping their communities safe,\u201d Hoeven said. \u201cToday\u2019s DOJ funding will help the departments meet increased demands by hiring additional law enforcement officers, which help ensure the continued safety and quality of life for the Fargo and West Fargo communities.\u201d\r\nLast week, Hoeven sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions asking him to release Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne JAG) funds as soon as possible. Byrne JAG funds are used by local governments and law enforcement to, among other things, purchase equipment and supplies and provide training.
