Wefald is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served 27 years and rose to the rank of Captain, and held the positions of North Dakota Attorney General and District Court Judge for South Central North Dakota. He also served as chairman of the committee that worked to secure the designation of USS North Dakota for a Virginia-class submarine.\r\n\u201cBob has long been an advocate for our state and nation\u2019s servicemembers and a dedicated public servant,\u201d Hoeven said. \u201cThroughout his career and personal life, his passion for serving his fellow veterans has been apparent. In this new role, he will continue his work to honor the men and women who gave everything for our country. We congratulate him on this well-earned position, and wish him the best in this important mission.\u201d\r\nThe ABMC administers and maintains U.S. military cemeteries, memorials and monuments, both domestically and across 16 foreign countries. The sites commemorate the service, achievements and sacrifice of the U.S. Armed Forces.
