The senator will also speak at Veterans Day events in Bismarck on Friday and Fargo on Saturday.\r\n\r\n\u201cOur freedoms have been secured by the sweat and sacrifice of courageous men and women who, throughout our history, have bravely done what was needed to protect our nation and way of life. We appreciate too the sacrifice of loved ones who have supported our veterans in their service. We must ensure that our veterans have the resources and support they need and have earned. While we cannot say \u2018thank you\u2019 enough, in this way, we can honor their courage and service. It is important that we show our gratitude to our veterans every day, but especially on Veterans Day, a day set aside in their honor. We have the greatest veterans in the world who have committed themselves to protect our nation, and in so doing, have transformed our nation into the greatest the world has ever known.\u201d\r\n\r\nSenator Hoeven has been working to advance efforts and initiatives to help veterans in North Dakota and throughout the country. Some of the senator\u2019s efforts include:\r\n\r\n \r\nVeterans Choice Program and Veterans Care Coordination Initiative \u2013 In August, Congress extended funding for the Veterans Choice Program and continues to work with the VA to design the next phase of the program. Building on the Choice Program, Senator Hoeven worked to implement the Veterans Care Coordination initiative at the Fargo VA Health Center so veterans in North Dakota and western Minnesota can coordinate all their health care services directly with the Fargo VA. The program has helped to significantly reduce wait times and has been expanded to a VA facility in Helena, Mont.\r\nVeterans Access to Long Term Care and Health Services Act \u2013 Senator Hoeven re-introduced legislation earlier this year to enable veterans to receive nursing home care near loved ones and in their home communities.\r\nVeterans Affair Fiscal Year 2018 Appropriations \u2013 In July, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved record-level funding to care for the nation\u2019s veterans. The funding will provide health care, benefits and memorial services and will go toward efforts to help prevent veteran suicide, increase access to health care in rural areas, improve health care for women veterans and complete VA construction projects.\r\n \r\n\r\nOn Friday, Senator Hoeven will deliver remarks at the AMVETS Veterans Day Program in Bismarck.
