In particular, the senator stressed the impact that record-high inflation is having on American consumers and businesses. Accordingly, Hoeven is working to bring down prices and support economic security by:\n\nEmpowering greater U.S. domestic energy production to help bring down prices at the pump and reduce the cost of goods throughout the economy.\n\nProviding regulatory relief, streamlining the permitting process for infrastructure and reducing duplicative and burdensome federal rules.\n\nSupporting farmers and ranchers to maintain the nation\u2019s access to an affordable, high-quality food supply, including as work begins on the next farm bill.\n\nDuring the meeting, Hoeven was also presented with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce\u2019s Advocate for American Business Award, previously called the Spirit of Enterprise Award, in recognition of his support for pro-growth, pro-jobs policies. The senator has received the award every year he has been in the Senate.\n\n\u201cThe tax, spending and regulatory policies of the Biden administration are taking this nation in the wrong direction, leading to higher prices across the economy, undermining our energy security and bringing us to the brink of recession,\u201d said Hoeven. \u201cNorth Dakota has demonstrated time and again that, through lower taxes and greater regulatory certainty, we can build a strong economy that stimulates investment and creates good job opportunities, while producing the energy and food our country needs. The federal government needs to take this same approach, and we will continue pushing to do just that.\u201d\n\nStrengthening America\u2019s Energy Security\n\nHoeven is working to pass legislation he introduced that would take immediate action to increase U.S. energy production. Among other priorities, his bill prohibits any presidential moratoria on new energy leases and requires the administration to hold oil and natural gas lease sales in each state with land available for leasing. The legislation also prohibits drawdowns of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) until the Secretary of the Interior issues a plan to increase oil and gas production on federal lands and waters.\n\nProviding Regulatory Relief\n\nLast month, Hoeven helped introduce legislation, sponsored by Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), to comprehensively reform federal permitting and project reviews.
