Jon Husted (R-Ohio) delivered a speech on the Senate floor today honoring Rittman Police Sgt. Scott Ries, who was killed in the line of duty on July 5, 2026.\n\nSgt. Ries was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence call. He served with the Rittman Police Department for 10 years after nearly two decades with the Wayne County Sheriff\u2019s Office. He also previously served with the Sugar Grove Police Department.\n\nKey excerpts include:\n\n\u201cEvery day, the men and women of law enforcement leave home, not knowing what they will encounter.\n\n\u201cThey live life with the uncertainty of what the next hazard is that they might encounter during the call that they receive to go protect and serve.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cSgt. Scott Ries was shot and killed responding to one of those calls.\n\n\u201cAnd today, I rise to honor one of Ohio\u2019s bravest sons.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cSgt. Ries served and protected his community until the very last moment when he was responding to one of those calls.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cToday, I want to take a few moments to honor his life, his service and his legacy.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cSgt. Ries was 54 years old and a native of Doylestown. He was a 10-year veteran of the police department.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cHis colleagues remember him as someone who wanted people to know that when they called for his help, he\u2019d be there for them.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cSgt. Ries was a devoted husband and father.\n\n\u201cI had a chance a few days ago to speak with his wonderful wife, Michelle.\n\n\u201cHe\u2019s remembered as someone who was deeply involved in his family\u2019s life, especially supporting his daughter\u2019s cheerleading activities.\u201d\n\n. . .\n\n\u201cSgt.
