Jon Husted (R-Ohio) was in the Dayton area this week, hosting a defense-industry roundtable with innovative leaders working to keep our nation safe. He also visited The Abilities Connection (TAC) Industries in Springfield, meeting with company leadership and touring their facility.\n\n\u201cOhio\u2019s defense industry is a critical part of our economy, supporting 113,000 jobs across the state. I was proud to sit down with Dayton-area defense leaders to hear directly from them about the opportunities and challenges facing the industry and how we can continue supporting this important work. At The Abilities Connection, I saw firsthand how Ohioans with disabilities are gaining skills, building independence and contributing to our workforce. It\u2019s always great to be back in the Miami Valley spending time with the people and organizations helping make our state stronger,\u201d said Husted.\n\nHusted met with Dayton-area defense companies to discuss how Ohio can continue leading the way for our nation\u2019s defense and how he can continue supporting this critical work in the U.S. Senate.\n\nHusted has supported Ohio\u2019s defense manufacturing industry through legislation, including the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, which strengthens America\u2019s military and supports Ohio\u2019s critical role in the nation\u2019s defense industrial base.\n\nHusted also supported the Working Families Tax Cuts Act in July, which includes pro-growth policies that support investment in manufacturing states like Ohio:\n\nFull and immediate expensing for investments in machinery, equipment, technology and software through bonus depreciation\n\nDoubles small business expensing limits for new investments in machinery, equipment, technology and software\n\nPermanent and immediate expensing for research and development costs\n\nFull expensing for investments in new factories\n\nPermanently expands the interest write-off available to businesses and manufacturers\n\nCuts taxes on tips and overtime, saving tipped and overtime workers up to $1,750 per year\n\nTAC Industries is a nonprofit that provides employment, training and community services to individuals with disabilities. Earlier this year, TAC secured major contract renewals with the U.S. Air Force to manufacturer their cargo nets.\n\nAt TAC, Husted discussed the importance of domestic production, reshoring supply chains, supporting America\u2019s military and ways to continue strengthening Ohio\u2019s workforce, highlighting his Upward Mobility Act.\n\nHusted introduced the Upward Mobility Act in January. The bill seeks to reform federal public assistance programs, end the benefits cliff and incentivize career growth.\n\nAmericans receiving federal public assistance face a benefits cliff when they experience a significant or complete loss of federal resources due to a small increase in income. Americans receiving benefits may earn a raise, or work more hours, but instead of increasing their total earnings, they end up worse off, because their federal assistance drops sharply.\n\nThe Upward Mobility Act would create a five-year pilot program for five states to combine funding from multiple federal anti-poverty programs into a single funding stream. States would be free to utilize savings from administrative streamlining, reduced bureaucracy, as well as resources from nonprofit and private sectors to design and invest in programs that prevent benefits cliffs while providing for the immediate needs of vulnerable populations.", 1, "2026-09-08T09:24:24Z", "2026-09-08T09:26:10Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.husted.senate.gov/media/press-releases/husted-in-dayton-for-defense-industry-roundtable-the-abilities-connection-visit/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0491800494492054, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
