Mr. President, I rise to extend a warm welcome to\n\nHis Excellency Narendra Modi, the esteemed Prime Minister of the\n\nRepublic of India. Next week, we will be honored to have him address a\n\njoint meeting of Congress underscoring the significance of the relationship\n\nbetween the United States and India.\n\nThe bond between India and the United States is not just an alliance,\n\nit is a strategic and global partnership. Our two nations' relationship\n\nis built on the strong foundation of shared values--democracy, freedom,\n\nand respect for the rule of law.\n\nIndia and the United States have long recognized the power of\n\ncollaboration and fostering peace, prosperity, and global stability.\n\nUnited States-India diplomatic relations have only grown since India\n\ngained its independence 75 years ago.\n\nIn the face of global challenges ranging from education to energy to\n\nagriculture and health, Prime Minister Modi has worked with the United\n\nStates to address these issues, and continues to work toward solutions\n\nthat benefit not just our countries but the entire world.\n\nPrime Minister Modi's visit to Washington, DC, is an occasion to\n\ncelebrate that progress and to reaffirm our commitment to further\n\nstrengthen this vital partnership.\n\nI have had the opportunity to learn more about this partnership from\n\nDr. Kulkarni, who is the Indian Consulate General in Atlanta, and a\n\nfriend of mine.
